Media Preservation

The Library of Congress serves as both a reference source for our legislators, and the official keeper of our nation’s history. This history comes in many forms including printed, photographic, audio and video recordings, and digital files.

In our January 2014 meeting, James Synder presented the systems and facility that the Library of Congress has developed to meet its charter of maintaining a catalog of our history for the minimum mandate of 150 years.

This meeting continues our look into the Library by doing a “Deep Dive” into Media Preservation. James will discuss the challenges, requirements, and possibly the art.

Directions to the event:

From the South: Take I-280 North, exit at 19th Avenue. Take Junipero Serra Boulevard to Holloway Avenue, turn left on Holloway Avenue to campus at 19th Avenue.

To get to the parking garage, continue on Holloway Avenue to Font Boulevard. Turn right onto Font Boulevard and continue to Lake Merced Boulevard. Turn right onto Lake Merced Boulevard then take an immediate right onto State Drive, which is the entrance to the parking garage.

From the East: Take I-80 West across the Bay Bridge to Highway 101 South. Take 101 South to I-280 toward Daly City. Take the San Jose Avenue/Mission St. exit (immediately after the Ocean Avenue exit), bearing right onto Sagamore Street to Brotherhood Way to Junipero Serra Boulevard North. Take Junipero Serra Boulevard to Holloway Avenue, turn left on Holloway Avenue to campus at 19th Avenue.

To get directly to the parking garage, stay on Brotherhood Way and turn right onto Lake Merced Boulevard. Turn right onto State Drive, which is the third light after turning onto Lake Merced Boulevard and immediately after Font Boulevard.
GPS suggestion: If using a GPS system, type in State Drive as the destination address

Although parking is available on streets around the campus, it is recommended that attendees park on campus in the indicated parking structure. All parking on campus is patrolled 24/7 and costs $4.00 for two hours, $7.00 for the day that ends at midnight.
